Zipcar's Public Partners Reception

Who is Zipcar?

Zipcar is an American car-sharing company and a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group. Zipcar provides automobile reservations to its members, billable by the minute, hour, or day. As the world's leading car-sharing network, they provide on-demand access to cars by the hour or the day in cities and campuses around the globe.

The Zipcar reception celebrating its Public Partners was held at their Washington, D.C. office. A historic location with inconsistent lighting, tight-spacing, and dark walls, was the perfect environment for our light-workers to demonstrate their abilities. This location allowed our team to demonstrate high-performance shooting despite the poor environment settings.

How did our team capture this event?

We took on the challenge of thoroughly documenting this multifaceted event, by coordinating the required shots with their public relations team and gently interacting with all attending employees. All images were captured with optimum lighting, movement, and creativity. We delivered the re-touched images to them on the morning of Thursday, January 17th, 2019 allowing them to circulate the images to their team and public partners via a newsletter less than 48 hours after the event.

With hundreds of guests, relating to the crowd and making participants feel comfortable is a must. We practice mindfulness and assertive yet gentle communication to ensure that we capture everyone in the best light and angle. Within a corporate setting, though we are freed from the volatility of wind and sun, other challenges such as lighting and spacing arise. From years of experience, we have perfected our approach to these obstacles. We place some of our greatest emphasis on efficiency, communication, staying alert, and being reliable.

What were our thoughts on this event?

While being a part of the Zipcar Public Partners Reception, we were overwhelmed by the sense of community and warmth within the company. Participants were not only open to being photographed, they also reveled in the spotlight, which made for a wonderful experience. Employees were fully immersed in the event, which made their photos all the more genuine. Our light-workers were not only circling the scene, but also became part of the event, allowing our team to fully embrace the atmosphere, and reflect their culture in our work. Gethro especially appreciated working with Katelyn Chesley, who not only managed the media portion of the event but also made our team feel welcomed within the company.
